Deep Fry your fish at the camp site or use a camping grill
Eating fish at your camp site has long been a tradition for many people. Fish are often fried in a pan on a camping grill at the camp site or sometimes cooked with butter and garlic and wrapped in tin foil over an open fire which leaves them very moist and great tasting. But my favorite way to cook fish is to deep fry them. Every year my son and I go to northern
Minnesota with 11 other guys (all Dad’s and Lad’s) and fish for two solid days and nights and all we eat is the fish we catch. We take 4 boats and catch more fish than you can imagine. The most fun part of of this trip is catching the fish but cooking and catching them is also lots of fun. We normally put a dozen fresh sunfish and bass fillets in a plastic bag with Frying Magic and shake it up until all the fish are covered with the Frying Magic. Then we put the fillets in a large deep fryer until they turn golden brown. We then put the fillets on a baking sheet and pass the baking sheet around to all the guys until everyone gets their fair share of fish to eat. This is repeated until everyone is full and we do this for lunch and dinner both days. At the end of two full days of fishing, everyone still goes home with their limit of fish to eat with their families. It’s a blast. But now you are probably wondering how to cook the fish at home.
With the Fryin Saucer Outdoor Deep Fyer, it’s easy. The innovative outdoor deep fryer pictured delivers the crisp, hot taste everyone loves no matter where you are. Simply connect it to your propane tank, fill the center reservoir with your favorite oil and Wah La. You can fry the fish and instead of passing them around on a baking pan or paper plate, you can set them on the surrounding table and everyone can come and get their own.
You can also fry french fries, meatballs, chicken strips… even the day’s catch from your fishing trip! Make every day fry-day. You can fry foods in the center and the oil will drain on the rim. It has an electric ignition for fast, easy lighting. It’s easy to clean up and works with your 1-lb. propane canister. It even has a carrying bag with mesh accessory pockets so you can take it to your camp site. So before you go camping again, check out the Fryin Saucer Outdoor Deep Fryer and leave that camping grill at home.

What is the difference between camping grills and a camping stoves
When you go shopping for a new camping grill or stove, you should know what the difference is between the two. Camping grills and camping stoves both cook your food and they are both available in small, large and portable styles. Both also can be fueled by charcoal, propane or gas. These are obvious differences to the naked eye. But what’s not always obvious is this. A camping grill
allows the flame of the fire to directly touch the food you are cooking. While your food rests on a grill or grate as they are sometime called, the flame can sear the food or burn the grate marks into the meat you are cooking. Your food will usually get cooked much faster on a grill but you have to be careful not to burn it. Camping grills are best for cooking chicken, steaks, hamburgers, hot dogs and pork chops. Many people like the charred taste of their food.
A camping stove transfers the heat from the fire to the food through a pot or pan. Camping stoves normally don’t have a grate or grill but instead have a heating element to rest a pot or pan on. Camping stoves are good for cooking things like eggs, bacon, hash browns, potatoes, beans, chili, hot dishes and other things you need to put in a pot or pan. They are normally less messy and easier to clean. I actually prefer Camping grills because they are easier to start , I like the charbroiled taste of the food and they are easier to keep clean; leaving more time for other camping activities. I recommend you check out the Weber Gas-Go Anywhere Grill.
Over the years I’ve heard many times that if you drop your food on the floor, it’s still okay to eat it so long as you pick it up within 5 seconds. You’ve probably heard this same rule as well. Now I don’t know if I truly believe in this rule but something happened a couple of days ago that made me wonder about this even more.
The weather warmed up to 55 degrees where I live in Minnesota which is wonderfully warm weather after a long winter. Many
people head outside to take a walk or drive their cars around with the windows rolled down just to enjoy the beautiful day. Some people like cooking on outdoor grills. That’s me. I went out to barbecue some chicken on our outdoor grill. I took the cover off the grill and before I placed the steaks on the fire, I noticed the utensils were not very clean. They had some grease and cheese remnants left from last fall. So I was wondering; does the 5 second rule apply here? Do I have to wash the utensils before cooking the chicken? Although no food had been dropped, it had been much longer than 5 seconds since they utensils were used to I obviously decided to wash them. Whew!!! You probably thought I wouldn’t. Have you ever opted to just go ahead and cook something with utensils that have laid around for several months?
After washing the utensils I put the chicken on the grill and waited. While I was waiting I started thinking… now the utensils are not clean again. And it’s been longer than 5 seconds. So do I have to wash them again? I only used them once to put fresh meat on the grill. I figured that’s silly and continued to cook with them. But then it happened. I dropped one of the steaks on the deck floor. I quickly picked it up in less than 5 seconds and I really wanted to put the steak back on the grill but did I? What do you think? What would you have done?
I then wondered, would washing the steak have made me feel more at ease about putting it back on the grill? What if I had been out camping and accidentally dropped the steak on the ground; a $10 steak. Would I throw it away or would I wash it? Does the cost of the food make a difference as to whether I’d choose to throw it away or wash it or maybe even just brush it off and eat it even though it’s a bit dirty. I asked my wife some of these questions and she says I gotta get a life because I obviously don’t have enough to d0 or think about. Maybe I’m going a little to far with this but it is kind of an interesting topic.
